About CADER

Mission

The Center for Aging and Disability Education and Research (CADER), is dedicated to strengthening the workforce through educational innovation, workforce change, and research. Located at Boston University School of Social Work, CADER builds upon the School’s historical commitment to the aging and disability fields and current strength in teaching, research and training.

The rapid aging of our society and the related increase in the need of older adults and persons with disabilities for services and care are major challenges of the 21st century. The profession of social work is at the forefront of those facing this challenge and is also in a unique position to respond—both to meet immediate needs and also to establish a higher standard of care for the future.

CADER is committed to becoming a national leader in developing the workforce of practitioners to meet the challenges of a growing and changing population of older Americans. CADER provides practicing social workers and other health and social service practitioners—the large majority of whom have received little or no training—with the knowledge, skills, and tools they require to meet the needs of older adults and persons with disabilities.
