Barry’s father’s family was filled with ministers and missionaries. In these stories, Barry explains how she arrived on the plan of becoming a missionary and what that meant to her. She also explains that the mission board charged her to live “in the midst” of the people, wherever she was assigned. She wondered, at first, how she would fulfill these instructions. In time, she came to believe that living “in the midst” – the title of this series of stories – was the best possible way as a missionary to interact with others, no matter their faith.
