Women and Health

Women and Health, MET PS501

Women and Health explores current issues directly related to the health experiences of women in the US. Topics may include, but are not limited to the following: body image and eating disorders; contraception; sexuality, sexual health; interpersonal violence; exercise and sports participation, mental health and depression.

This course focuses on health issues that are unique to women’s experiences, on women’s status as undervalued (and sometimes victimized) consumers of health care, and on the medicalization of women’s health issues and concerns. The course stresses the potential for women’s agency and autonomy with respect to improving their health and environments.
