The LIBRE Clinical Advisory Board and Staff attended the American Burn Association annual meeting in Las Vegas this month. Ten abstracts were presented, as described below:

Laura C. Simko, BS presented: The Impact of Burn Injury on Relating with Strangers: A Life Impact Burn Recovery Evaluation (LIBRE) Study as a poster. It won the Best in Category award!

Vivian Shie, BS presented: The Impact of Work-Related Injury on Employment Reintegration Outcomes: A Life Impact Burn Recovery Evaluation (LIBRE) Study as a poster.

Colleen M. Ryan, MD presented: The Effects of Burn Size on Long-Term Community Reintegration Outcomes: A Life Impact Burn Recovery Evaluation (LIBRE) Study as the plenary presentation. 

Gabriel Shapiro, PhD presented: Factor Structure of the Life Impact Burn Recovery Evaluation Questionnaire (LIBRE – 192) as a poster.

Jeremy Goverman, MD presented: Psychosocial Outcomes 10 Years Post-Burn: A Life Impact Burn Recovery Evaluation (LIBRE) Study as an oral presentation.

Benjamin Levi, MD presented: The Impact of Gender on Long-Term Community Reintegration Following Burn Injury: A Life Impact Burn Recovery Evaluation (LIBRE) Study as an oral presentation.

Sara Cartwright, MD presented: Burn Survivors Injured as Children Exhibit Resilience in Long-Term Community Integration Outcomes: A Life Impact Burn Recovery Evaluation (LIBRE) Study as a poster.

John T. Schulz III, MD presented The Impact of Education on Quality of Burn Survival: A Life Impact Burn Recovery Evaluation (LIBRE) Study as a poster.

Drs. Lewis Kazis and Colleen Ryan described the origin and goals of the LIBRE Project and how collaboration is an integral part to its success. This presentation is based off of a talk given at Phoenix Society’s World Burn Congress in 2015. This is Part 1 of the presentation, and Part 2 will be available spring 2016.

LIBRE staff recorded 2 presentations presenting the background and initial phases of the LIBRE Project. These presentations are based off of presentations given throughout 2014 and 2015 at professional meetings and conferences. April 2015

The abstract “Social Participation of Burn Survivors: A Conceptual Framework” was accepted at the American Burn Association’s Annual Meeting in Chicago. The abstract focused on the development of the conceptual framework guiding the LIBRE Project and the development of items for the questionnaire. Molly Marino, MPH, presented the abstract during the meeting that took place from April 21 – 25, 2015.

October 2014

Molly Marino, MPH, presented a poster at the International Society for Quality of Life Research (ISOQOL) conference in Berlin on October 17, 2014. The poster focused on the conceptual framework that guides the LIBRE Project and on the development of the items to be included in the LIBRE questionnaire.ISOQOL poster 2

August 2014

Drs. Lew Kazis, Principal Investigator, and Colleen Ryan, co-investigator of the LIBRE Project, presented on the Burn Outcomes Questionnaires (BOQ) for children and young adults at the Kaiser Permanente Population Health Strategy Webinar on August 28, 2014. The BOQ surveys laid the groundwork for what the LIBRE Project is doing with adults. You can read more about the presentation in LIBRE news.

Molly Marino, MPH, a current PhD student, presented a poster on LIBRE at the Boston University’s Scholars Day on April 15, 2014.  The poster focused on the development of the conceptual framework and item pool that will guide the creation of the LIBRE questionnaire.
